Dendy : Martin Place was the host cinema for Metropolis, an anime remake of Fritz Lang’s Metropolis. Although I have to admit that I did get bored at times, there were many outstanding parts to this movie. Foremost among them was the CGI. It was brilliant and detailed, although spoiled at times by the layered sprites that were the people, especially in crowd scenes. At other times the sprite/3D mix was very effective, and the sprite/painted backgrounds were effective in giving a feeling of transition to the lower levels of the city.
The subtitles initially detracted from the movie as I had to choose between following the plot or watching the beautiful scenery. This soon became a non-issue as my brain kicked in and I was able to process the text peripherally. Perhaps I suddenly learned Japanese?
All up, 3 gold stars.
